Stephen F. Boutin, a shareholder in the firm, is a member of the firm's litigation group. Mr. Boutin has successfully defended numerous investment disputes involving complex limited partnerships, tax shelters and securities, and acted as lead litigation counsel for over 7,000 plaintiffs nationwide in a successful securities fraud action. He also successfully represented plaintiffs before the New York Stock Exchange, the National Association of Securities Dealers and the Pacific Exchange.

Mr. Boutin is listed in U.S. News and World Report Best Lawyers in America for 2013 in Commercial Litigaton and was named as a Super Lawyer for 2012.

Stephen F. Boutin graduated in 1972 from the University of California at Davis, King Hall Law School. Following his graduation he joined Downey, Brand, Seymour and Rohwer, a firm started by his grandfather, Stephen Downey. Mr.Boutin started his legal career in business litigation, focusing on constitutional, real property, contract, and sports issues. Early in his career he appeared before the First and Third Appellate District Courts and the Supreme Court of California and had numerous appellate court opinions published. Mr. Boutin litigated cutting-edge issues and represented notable clients, including General Motors, McClatchy Newspapers, The State Bar of California, then-Assembly Speaker Willie Brown, CBS, 60 Minutes, and Olympic Swimming Coach, Sherm Chavoor. In 1978, he was elevated to partnership at Downey, Brand. Within five years he had earned Martindale-Hubbell's highest rating, AV,and was elected to the firm's Executive Committee. In late 1986, Mr. Boutin co-founded Boutin, Lassner, Gibson, Perry & Delehant where he added investment disputes to his business litigation practice. He has represented both Fortune 500 national brokerage houses and investor claimants.

In 1995, Mr. Boutin joined with three friends, William Dentino, Chris Gibson and John Di Giusto, to found Boutin, Dentino, Gibson & Di Giusto. In 1997, they welcomed Doug Hodell.

Mr. Boutin has moderated and served as a panelist on numerous legal education programs including California State Bar CEB programs on real estate litigation and complex civil discovery, and investment law classes attended by attorneys and securities brokers. He also has lectured at the University of California at Davis, King Hall Law School.

Over the years, Mr. Boutin has served on over 20 regional and community boards and committees including the Crocker Art Museum; Sacramento Region Community Foundation; Leukemia Society; Sacramento Opera Association; American Lung Association; Mondavi Center Board; Sacramento Theater Company; University of California at Davis, Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Athletics; UC Davis' King Hall Alumni Association; and Heart Research Foundation. In eight of these organizations he has served as President or in a senior leadership capacity.
